THE SITUATION IN DUBLIN.

SIE,—No doubt the criticisms on the light-hearted attitude of the Lord Lieutenant and the Chief Secretary of Ireland towards the recent strikes are just. But from the Home Rule point of view, was it not the right one?

Surely it would have been a bad party move to show that "The Castle" could be of any service in any emergency, and this may account for its following the example of Gallio with such surprising fidelity.—I am, Sir, &c., R. K. H.
