Forgotten right

Sir: On every conceivable occasion the national press, TV and radio networks publish news and views of the myriad of revolutionary anarchist, Communist, extreme Left-wing and other anti-national organisations, their frequently scruffy leaders ' are deferentially interviewed, their more prominent members appear on news and discussion panels and passages from their published 'works ' are quoted in such unlikely places as on educational, religious and children's programmes.

But if news of the activities of serious nationalist organisations like the National Front appear in the media at all it is either a tiny item of a few lines at the bottom of a page, or a quick flash of a march on TV, particularly if this involved violence, although it is never explained that the violence came from opposing Left-wing demonstrators.

A clue to this seemingly discriminatory attitude of the media was given in a book Because They're Black by the Sunday Times race relations correspondent Derek Humphrey who wrote: "It is an unwritten rule in British journalism to print as little as possible about ' extreme ' (my quotes) right-wing organisations because the publicity only helps them to recruit members."

Apparently those who attempt to control our thoughts are unworried that publicity for Left-wing organisations might have the same effect!

The truth is that what is loosely called the 'New Left ' is in fact encouraged as a safety valve into which all forces of dissent can safely be channelled without ever seriously challenging the political monopoly of the major parties, all of whom (including the Conservatives) now have a pronounced left-wing slant. Young people who join its ranks feel that they are fighting 'the system' whereas in fact they are merely being permitted to let off steam by that very system.

If there is a real challenge to the political establishment it comes from the forces of radical nationalism. The media, which by and large support this control of the nation's political life, know that, unlike the New Left, nationalism and the National Front in particular, represents a real political alternative and they are therefore determined that it must never be allowed to become a force to be reckoned with.
