SIR,—It is the custom in most districts in England to trim the hedges before the blackberry harvest has been gathered. This arrangement robs the poor yearly of many tons of valuable fruit. Surely, at least this autumn, the blackberries might he allowed to ripen before the work of hedge-trimming begins.
