Why Tony's not for turning

From Mr Ron West Sir: Matthew Parris's brilliant suggestion (Another voice. 8 February) about Tony Blair leading the Tories occurred to me many months ago when I read a biography of him: it seemed to me that his Labour persuasions had only begun in his college days as a kind of delayed teenage rebellion against his Durham Conservative Association chairman father and traditional housewife mother.

Sadly, Parris's idea will never bear fruit owing to Blair's marriage to the radical leftwing erstwhile Labour candidate for Thanet North, Cherie Booth, who continues to make a mint out of the Human Rights legislation — the widespread judicial abuse of which is anathema to any Conservative — and who pursues a highly feminist agenda.

From Mr Tim Moorey Sir: Matthew Parris tries to convince us that our current Prime Minister could become leader of the Conservatives. What seems even better evidence is that Tony Blair MP can be rearranged as Plan B I'm Tory.
