We note with special pleasure the appointment of Lord Crawford,

better known to the public as Lord Balcarres, to be President of ; the Board of Agriculture and Fisheries. The post is one of great : importance now, and is likely to be of still greater importance during the period of reconstruction after the war. Lord Crawford, though a man of many acres, is not one of whom it can be said that his talk is of c xen. It is more likely to be of books or pictures. But we venture to say that because he is a connoisseur, a scholar, and a. man of ideas he will not make a worse but a better Minister of the great Department over which he is to preside.
