The Provisional Government have announced that they have had a

satisfactory response to their appeal to all men of good will to rally to the side of the Free State. The Lord Chancellor in the House of Lords on Thursday, July 6th, made a similar appeal to .the " young gentlemen " of the South of Ireland. Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Mr. De Valera is still a mystery. Dublin itself has been quiet since the suppression of the Repub- licans there, but the Republicans still hold the telegraph offices South of the capital. Business has not been able to recover

quickly, and it is said that there is great distress among the

78 people of the capital. Mr. Cathal Brugha, otherwise Charles Burgess, the Republican irreconcilable who, as we recorded last week, was seriously wounded in the siege of Sackville Street, has died.
