The Army Estimates and the Total Estimates The full figures

of the Army Estimates are not published when we write, but it is known that there is to be a decrease of E45,000. The Secretary for War, in his memorandum, remarks on the present difficulty in recruiting the Army in spite of the lower standards. It is now certain that Mr. Snowden will have to meet an extra expenditure of nearly £40,000,000 on the total Estimates, £15,000,000 of which is attributable to the last Government's Local Government and Derating Act and is proirided for by the Rating Relief Suspense Account. Mr. Snowden has, therefore, to find about £25,000,000.
