GOD, CHRIST AND THE CHURCH, by J. Scott Lidgett (Hodder

and Stoughton, 8s. 6d.), is a compilation of articles which have appeared in various magazines. In the first and more specifically theological part of the book, chapter iii. is valuable. It criticizes Dr. Inge's study, The Idea of Progress, and J. B. Bury's work with the same title. The movement towards Christian reunion is the basis for the selection of the later papers. The book is dull, but worthy.
