REBUILDING THE BANK.

Ten years is aloilg'period to be oeOupied in the rebuilding of bank premises, but from the reply given to a question asked by Mr. E. M. Rodocanachi at last week's half-yearly Court of the Bank of England, it is evident that from first to last very little short of that time will be required for the rebuilding of the Bank of England. It must now be fully two years since the work was commenced, and it appears that approximately another eight years will elapse before com- pletion. At the same time, it cannot be said that any surprise has been occasioned to those who have followed the plan of reconstruction, for, without any disrespect to other existing structures, it is evident that the Bank of England is to•be rebuilt on lines calculated to stand the shocks of ages and to endure not merely for years but for some few. centuries.
