THE EXTRAORDINARY DEAL AT WHIST.

• [To THE EDITOR OF THZ " SPECTATOR." J

Sia,—Although fully recognising the justice of your criticisms, and acknowledging a deal resulting in a complete suit of trumps in one hand to be, as you point out, only normally extraordinary, I am still inclined to the opinion that the abnormal extraordinariness lies in the fact that pure chance produced the only result entailing absolute certain victory without play, a result which, in the nature of the game, was- held to be so improbable as never even. to be hoped for.—I am,

Sir, &c., E. H. THRUSTON. Royal Thames Yacht Club, 7 Albemarle Street, April 9th.

[Our correspondent forgets that for one hand to hold all/ the trumps, is by no means unprecedented. Every old. whist-player must have seen that happen. The deal re- ported to the Times was much more unusual than that,. since the other three hands were complete suits as well.— ED. Spectator.]
