Peace is nearer in Morocco though it is not by

any means certain. The principal conditions required by France and Spain are that Abd-el-Krim should withdraw from the Riff and should formally submit himself to the Sultan of Morocco ; that the tribes should be disarmed and that there should be an exchange of prisoners. The delegates who are discuSsing the terms are already at Ujda. France and Spain can hardly mean that the tribesmen should be fully disarmed, as it is necessary for them to have some arms-to protect themselves. The Paris correspondent of the Times says that there is an informal armistice along the whole military front." It is expected that a decision for or against peace will be reached rapidly, as France and Spain would want to make use of all the best campaigning weekS if further fighting should be necessary.
