Mother knows best

Sir: Having known my son, William, through- out his life, I have never heard him utter an anti-Semitic word, and although he is contro- versial, I find many of the responses to his article over the top (`Kings of the deal, 29 October). There are many points that could be made, but I will confine myself to one. The assertation is that he said `there is a Jew- ish cabal in Hollywood'. In fact, he said, 'the extent to which this adds up to any sort of Jewish cabal is difficult to assess'. This kind of distortion is self-revealing and indicates that many people who have commented on the article have either not read it or did not want to.

Incidentally, William's grandfather was killed in the war 50 years ago and awarded the MC in the fight against fascism and the Holocaust.
