Taki's disease

Sir: Is it possible that Taki (High life, 27 January) is unaware that he is an anti- semite? He vilifies those who complain about public statements of anti-semitism and goes on to demonstrate his own, perhaps expecting potential protesters to be daunted. But when he finds the Jewish- ness of some people involved in shady financial deals of significance and when he declares 'that Jews are not the types to let bygones be bygones' he reveals that the disease is deep inside him.

It is interesting as well that he goes on to applaud Senator Dole's speech seeking to reduce the amount of American aid to Israel. Taki certainly weakens the argu- ment of those who maintain that opposi- tion to Israel has nothing to do with anti-semitism.
