Pot de Voiture

SK—Lord Egremont's 'Endpaper' in your June 3 issue reminds me of a story (true), but of course there is no point of comparison, although the article mentions a duplicate of the Pot de Voiture.

A close relative of .a friend of mine had, late in his life, retired in Chelsea or some similar abode, but in his prime he had fought in Balaclava. Each time he felt a real want of money to soothe the hardships of his life he would sell the Bugle of Balacliva. Did he really ever blow the bugle, I should like to tell, but he sold a few.

Horn soit qui mal y pense.

I have also seen several times on the French scene a one-act curtain-raiser entitled Le Tambour de Kovno—a very similar story indeed.
