NEWS OF THE WEEK.

ON Monday news was received from Omdurman that a day or two before the battle the Bhalifa received news that a force of white men had occupied Fashoda. He at once sent two steamers up the White Nile to find out the truth of the report. One of these boats returned on September 7th, and surrendered to the Sirdar. The Captain says that he found Fashoda was in the hands of a white force, and that his boat was heavily fired on, and escaped with difficulty. "Sub- sequent information," says Renter's correspondent, "ten is to confirm the belief that the force at Fashoda is French, and the bullets found in the hull of the steamer are thought to be those of the French rifle." Since Monday there has been no more authentic news as to the matter, but our gunboats have at once started up the White Nile to report, and the Sirdar has ordered all the war correspondents to leave the Soudan.
