Finch and Baines: a Serenteenth Century Friendship. By Archibald Malloch.

(Cambridge University Press. 10. ad. not.) —Sir John Finch and Sir Thomas Baines wore two eminent physicians of the seventeenth century. From their college days at Christ's, Cambridge, they wore inseparable. They studied medicine at Padua, and spent many years in Italy. Finch was sent as Am- bassador to Turkey in 1674, and there his friend died in 1681. Finch survived him only for a year. There is a monument to the pair in Christ's College, to Attach each of them loft £2,000. Mr. Malloch's interesting book, with its many extracts from their letters and papers, presents those kindly men of science in a pleasing light. Among the illustrations are two surprisingly good portraits of the friends by Carlo Delci.
