VANISHING ENGLAND.

[To THE EDITOR Or THE " SPECTLTOR."1

Sin,—In your review of " Vanishing England " by P. H. Ditchfield, on January 28th, I notice a quotation to the effect that a valley near Kingsclere, Hants, which "holds a village with a church and graveyard, a chapel, an inn "—perhaps the most beautiful building in the district—" and a cemetery is to be flooded with water to make a huge reservoir " Mr. Ditchfield writes as if there were no doubt of it. It may interest your readers to know that there is no doubt. Mr. Ditchfield is entirely wrong. The London Water Board gave up the scheme a year ago, and the valley—the Enborne Valley—is safe, at the expense of Weybridge,

Staines, Walton, and their neighbours.—I am, Sir, &b. L. P.
