Two hundred Unionist Members of Parliament met on Tuesday, at

the invitation of some of their number, to adopt a resolution deprecating conflicts -within the Coalition and declaring their support of Mr. Chamberlain in his "determination to stand by the Prime Minister." The resolution was, however, so sharply criticized that it had to be dropped, and the meeting came to an end without making any pronouncement on the crisis. The promoters announced afterwards that the meeting had shown "practically no indication of a desire to end the Coalition," but it is clear that the members present had displayed no enthu- siasm for the alliance with the National Liberals. The failure of the meeting is indeed significant. Sir George Younger interpreted accurately the feelings of unofficial Unionists.
