Life in Poland

Sir: The inability to distinguish between the teachings of Christ which preach brotherly love, and certain left-wing orientated political philosophies which thrive on class envy is, alas, an all too common failing these days.

if, however, the Revd Kenneth Leech (Letters, 25 February) is interested in the realities of life behind the Iron Curtain for a nation which is predominantly Catholic, may I suggest that he reads the book Dissent in Poland, 1975-77 (of which I was joint editor) recently reviewed by Auberon Waugh in the Spectator (4 February). Moreover, should the possibility arise, a talk with his fellow-clergymen from that hapless country would no doubt be most instructive.
