SIR,—The following are two examples of what one may call "Con- tinental English " which I observed when abroad some years ago. (1) In tl►e interior of the passenger lift in one of the principal hotels in Florence was painted in large lettering : " Yon are Requested to not Leave the Lift before it not Still Stands."
