• 'On Sat - um:lay morning_last Zaghlul Pasha, the Egyptian Prime Minister,

was wounded • by an Egyptian student at the Cairo railway station. The Prime Minister _was on his way to Alexandria to take ship for a visit to England in order to explain his claims on the Sudan to Mr. Ramsay MacDonald. Happily the medical student-, though he got very close to his intended victim, failed in the attempt. Zaghlul was raising his hand to the salute as the_man fired, and his fingers deflected the bullet. Though it entered his chest, it did not penetrate the lung, but appears only to have given a slight wound. The Prime Minister showed bravery and presence of mind, and, in spite of his age, there seems no reason to believe that the injury will be serious. The X-rays examination has shown the doctors the position of the bullet, and they propose to leave it inside him unless any inflammation should arise. At present there is no trace of any such trouble. It is hoped that he will soon be able to make his intended journey to England as part of his convalescent treatment. The authorities are said to suspect the existence of a wide- spread plot and a great many arrests have been made, including- Abdel - Aziz Sheikh Shawish, at one time Professor of Arabic at Cambridge, and a person of very important, if somewhat mysterious, activities throughout the Mohammedan world. He is, indeed, considered to be one of the most active members of the Egyptian Nationalist Party.
