SIR,—Has Mrs. Kitkat, one wonders, any idea of the extent

by which crop yields are reduced every year by weed seeds that are conveyed by a variety of agents from hedgerows and roadside verges on to farm land ? Does she realise that many of the " wild flowers " which she wishes to save are, to the farmer, weeds —and a menace ? And where have her nostrils been offended by the " repellent stench of death " resulting, she suggests, from the use of selective weedkillers ?

In the interests of increased food production, the sooner other local authorities follow the example of the Kent County Council the better.—Yours faithfully,
