Social intercourse

Sir: Taki claims (10 November) that I went to Prague with him and John Bastias to pursue girls. What rot. Clio — with whom Taki had a brief platonic flirtation before succumbing to the easy charms of journal- ism — is the only girl I pursue these days. She implores me to set the record straight this once.

When three young ladies offered to entertain us in Prague, we accepted, hav- ing been told that it all would be verbal. Taki must have thought that verbal is the same as oral. Although Greek to him, the difference can make, well, a difference.

Who knows what went on behind closed doors? As for myself I was as well enter- tained as I had hoped. The Countess Czernin read Kafka to me through the night (fine pronunciation too). Olga reached the end of The Trial (more than I did) at dawn. She earned her sizeable fee by her marvellous elocutionary skill.
