It is Miss Clarke's misfortune that while her book— Elizabeth

Barrett Browning (Hutchinson, 12s. 6d.)—was in preparation, Mr. Osbert Burdett should have produced his admirable study, The Browoings, already reviewed in our columns. This event renders the fruits of her labour some- what tasteless, though doubtless she derived some com- pensating joy in the labour itself. Lovers of the Brownings will find little, almost nothing, that is new, but much pleasurable repetition, in this well-illustrated volume.
