Rubber companies are showing up well under the trying conditions

of last year when the sudden removal of restriction of exports occasioned so sharp a fall in the price of the coin. modity. At the recent -meeting of the Malakoff Rubber Estates, Ltd., the Chairman, Sir Harold Snagge, was able to show that although the company had suffered through obtaining about 4d. per lb. less on the sales of rubber, the net profit on such sales per lb. had only dropped 24d., owing to substantial savings in costs of production. Very wisely, however, the board has pursued a conservative policy, and although there were net earnings for the year of 221,222 the dividend is limited to 2/ per cent. with a substantial carry forward.
