SIR,—I was touched by John Deane Potter's tribute to Duncan

Webb, pausing only to wonder whether the late Mr. Webb would have been quite so enthusi- astic in rounding up the Messinas had they been the last criminals at large in this country—meal-tickets are not treated lightly by the press boys..

This can only be purely conjectural, of course, since there are plenty more where the Messinas came from and there seems to be an ample supply of crusading journalists to capitalise on them.
