WEEKLY FROLIC

Three excursions last week including two fairytale summery days in a box at Epsom gave a tempting taste for the leisured life and similar offers regarding Ascot will be grate- fully received. On Saturday Titus Oates, looking every inch the champion, made a late and stylish entry into Sandown's pad- dock before bowling to victory along a course more suited to an afternoon's scramb- ling than a fast gallop, and earlier Dapper Dan, sadly, just failed to provide a handsome 10 to 1 win in the Classic Trial, but after three unlucky but promising runs, he should certainly offer compensation next time.

Having organised the 'Guineas' a week ahead, I cannot resist the lure of New- market's chief supporting attractions— Friday's Jockey Club and Saturday's Palace House Stakes, with their select and formid- able fields. In Friday's race I see no reason why Riboprince (4th) should reverse Irish Leger placings with Meadowville (2nd) but the latter may be unable to deal effectively with Murless's Prince Consort, who ended last season by taking the Bessborough Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Prince of Wales here. In the Saturday sprint Mummy's Pet with an 11 lb weight-for-age concession, may give potential champion sprinter, Realm, who had an untaxing reappearance in the Abernant Stakes, most to think about. Fin- ally, a filly to follow. Sea Wonder, who ran highly-thought-of Deep Diver to a length on her debut at Kempton, can lose her maiden status in Newmarket's opening race on Saturday.

Assets : £80.875. Outlay : £5 to win Realm, £2 to win Sea Wonder and Prince Consort.
