Among other reductions of taxation the following must be noted.

The duty on motor goods vehicles between two and two and a half tons is reduced from £40 to £35, with a rebate of 20 per cent. for vehicles fitted with pneumatic tyres. The rebate is very wisely designed to save the wear and tear of the roads. For motor cycles not exceeding 224 lb. in weight the future duty is to be £1 10s. The previous maximum of weight for the thirty-shilling duty was 200 lb. The on-licence duties on public houses are to be reduced by 25 per cent. from October 1st. Off-licence holders in England and Wales will in future be allowed to sell single half-bottles of spirits. This is called " getting rid of D.O.R.A." by some newspapers which forget that Mr. Lloyd George's pre-War legislation provided for the sale of quart bottles only. The cost in the present year to the Treasury will be £950,800.
