From Mr Andrew Macdonald Sir: It is a testament to

the tolerance of your proprietor that he permits excellent and illuminating articles like Emma Williams's to he published at all. However, it is a pity that his ownership seems to entail pieces like your absurd and outrageous editorial 'Fighting fanaticism' (13 April) to be churned out with saddening regularity.

If it is the Tory party that feels most at ease with deep-rooted concepts like 'love of queen, country, regiment, village, town, school, family, etc.', what should our view be of a political entity that is basically the result of plucking all these up in a corner of the globe and planting something new and entirely different? Logically, as a Tory, might I suggest that it is a rather bad and dangerous thing to do, and that, in principle, we should all be against it.
