Congratulations are due to everyone concerned on the success of

the new broadcasting licensing scheme. When the scheme was put into operation it was computed that there were 200,000 unlicensed " listeners." Already, in answer to the Postmaster-General's appeal, no fewer than 170,000 have taken out licences. Thus, the British Broadcasting Company has at a stroke had its number of licence-holders, and hence its income, doubled. More, it has once again been proved that the British public is more than willing to conform to an obviously just and necessary regulation if the issue is put clearly and straightforwardly before it. * * * *
