Messrs. Frost and Reed send us a reproduction in mezzotint

of Sir Thomas Lawrence's Master Lambton. The technique of this engraving seems to be all that could be desired. The painting is an admirable example of Lawrence's style, and it is worthily represented here. The effect of colour is given as near as may be with the means available. But a Lawrence boy is, after all, a doubtful creature. Men and women may have, or at least simulate, moods of enthusiasm,—but a boy ! We are reminded of the "Infant Samuel." Here he is in the garb of a young aristo- crat. But imagine him in the playing-fields of Eton !
