POETRY.

THE DOUBT RESOLVED. To go or stay, I scarcely knew, Perplexed by mandates twain, For while my love pronounced "Adieu," Her aspect said " Remain."

'Twist what I saw and what I heard, My judgment wavered quite,— Whether she meant by glance or word To part us, or unite.

But now each lover I advise, Like me, to make his choice ; In duty to his lady's eyes, To disregard her voice.

Such orbs with kinder light are filled, The nearer we adore ; And pouting lips, if bravely stilled,

Will banish us no more. J. S. D.
