LADY CHATTERLEY'S LOVER

Sus,—Much of the argument io your columns might have been obviated by a cursory inspection of my article 'Lawrence, Joyce and Powys' in Essays in Criticism (Oxford). October. 1961. My analysis had already surveyed the evidence used later by Mr. Sparrow in Encounter, and contained more, besides relating the sexual abnormality in question to Lawrence's life-work and other writers.

The continued silence regarding this article both in Encounter and elsewhere appears to me quite extraordinary. Though attention has already been called to its priority in the columns of the Observer. I have received no sign of recognition or regret from those concerned; nor do any of your own correspon- dents seem to be aware of the extent and nature of the evidence already published.
