Annual Summaries Reprinted from the "Times." Vol. I., 1851-75. (Macmillan.)—These

summaries are intended for the future, we have been always disposed to think, rather than for the present. A reader who is acquainted with the details of the events of the year, finds himself rather wearied when they are thus presented to him in summary. But when a certain time has elapsed, they become both useful and interesting. The difficulty of referring to the history of the near past is often great ; a book like this removes it to a considerable extent.
