The Empress Euginie and her Son. By Edward Le gg e. (Grant

Richards. 12s. 6d. net.)—Mr. Legge's third volume on the Empress Eug6nie is even loss coherent than the others, and may be described as a collection of odds and ends having some relation to the venerable lady, or to the Emperor whom she has survived so long, or to the Prince Imperial. Among a mass of trivialities we note the anecdote of the Empress revisiting Fontainebleau in 1914 and recognizing an ivory box given to her on her marriage by her husband. But Mr. Legge almost spoils this by quoting it three times over. The portraits in the book are interesting.
