A telegraphic despatch from Trieste, imparting a brief summary of

the contents of the overland mail from India and China, arrived in town last -night. The latest dates are from Hongkong the 11th, and Bombay the '28th November.

"Accounts from Burmah are of a more satisfactory character. Pegn is more tranquil ; the Dacoita are disappearing, and famine no longer prevails. Viscount Melville is appointed to the command of the Sirhind division, in the room of the late General Godwin. The Peshawar force has been con- centrated.

" In China, the insurgents keep possession of Shanghai; but those at Amoy have been defeated by the Imperialists. The Canton market has im- proved."
