A case of human sacrifice

Sir: B. J. Hurren's letter (17 May) is convinc- ing so far as supersonic flights originating in

Britain are concerned. Will he now make his Bc, CD' calculations for ssrs originating flights at—or destined for—Frankfurt, Paris, or any other northern European capital? As be certainly knows, Concorde must be sold to air- lines operating out of and into these capitals if its development is not to be catastrophically uneconomic; and, of course, he knows that Russia and America are developing their own ssrs designed for operation not only into and out of Britain but also across this country in his 'Be stage, that is supersonic.

And to meet rhetorical question with rhetori- cal question, does Mr Hurren really imagine that his '15,000 workers; managements, minis- terial officers and so on give a damn about the sonic boom future as long as their livelihoods depend on developing the means for bringing it into Leing?
