A GOLD COAST LIBRARY

[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] S'-n,—On my return to the - Gold Coast in December I intend to start a lending library for the natives in Accra, the first venture of its kind, I believe, in West Africa. At a time when civilization is overtaking us there with giant strides„ and ti?: re is a growing and widespread demand for -education, few things can be more important than the provision of suitable books for those who are clamouring for knowledge. Books of all lands will be welcome, though discrimination Shoal be used in selecting only the better class of fiction, and they trhould be sent to the Bishop of Accra, Missionary Equip- ment Supply, Church House, S.W. The burden of those who ire working in West Africa is by no means easy, and by assisting us in this way some of your readers may like to feel thst they are helping us to bear it.—I am, Sir, &c.,
