JOHN O'LONDON'S

SIR,—Let the passing of John O'London's Weekly achieve a degree of immortality, serving as a reminder that a certain culture must be fostered if the nation is to remain great.

' The people only want this stuff.' my news- agent complained indicating the piles of trashy picture papers around the busy shop, adding that a journal such as the Spectator would have to be ordered especially.

In spite of the millions spent on education the cultural heritage left us by our forebears is being lost in favour of mass synthetical entertainment.

Perhaps a timely warning is needed.—Yours faithfully, 26 Clifton Gardens, Folkestone, Kent
