WATCHING THE SPRING.

An early spring, such as this, should compel us, if we are gardeners, to reject any rigid dates and respond to the season. The grass already shows signs of growing. and if anyone wishes a good lawn he should get to work at once with rake and sand and seed. All three arc necessities for most lawns. Most

herbaceous plants are sprouting, and incidentally wild animals are obeying the call of the season. Foxes, as well as birds, have mated exceptionally early ; and it should be felt as an obligation by those who hunt either foxes or hares to suspend the season as soon as the females are heavy with young. The duty cannot be toolnsistently urged. • ' • - -
