In the House of Commons on Thursday, February 17th some

Labour members used unfortunate language criticizing the tour of the Duke and Duchess of York, but other Labour members were not at all backward in defending the expenditure. On the whole -there is no sign that Labour means to revive the practice of, say thirty years ago, of abusing the Royal Family. Labour speakers are quite entitled, of course, to make Ina public pageantry the occasion for reminding the world of poverty, but most of them know enough of economies now to avoid the mistake 4 supposing that the iinancia support of the Royal Family has any effect upon "the condition of the people." On the contrary, Labour, as a whole, recognizes that the British monarch is by for the best trained, the most suitable and the least expensive head of a constitutional democracy that has ever been obtained.
