A HISTORIC GROUP

[To the Editor of THE SPECTATOR.] SIR,--I have just come across a faded photograph of a group consisting of Lords Macaulay and Bulwer Lytton, and Messrs. Thackeray, Dickens, Carlyle, George MacDonakl, Froude, Wilkie Collins and Trollope.

So far as I ant able to judge, the photograph, published by Hughes and Edmonds, 130 Cheapside, appears to be that of an actual group and not faked from individual portraits. Should that be so, it would be interesting to know in what circumstances nine such literary giants were assembled together.—I am, Sir, yours, &c.,
