SIR,_ With reference to Mr. John Davenport's sym- Pathetic review of my recent book, I should like to Point out that he misquotes its epigraph. be ?ilerny's enemy is my friend' (not enemy) max' e eaaY' and even 'negative,' but it is less plain silly than Mr. Davenport's version.

And I did not—nor would I ever—talk about a landscape seen from a train as 'whooshing past the ,dow; Discarded pints of beer perhaps whoosh; landscapes wheel.
