CARRERAS.

An improvement in the shares of some of the Tobacco Companies has been stimulated to some extent by what was regarded as a satisfactory Report of Carreras, Ltd., while at the shareholders' meeting on Friday, the Chairman, Sir Louis Baron, made the important statement that the company's business during the past six weeks had shown a steady upward tendency and that the figures were now showing an increase over the corresponding period of last year. Indeed, he added that for this period of the year a record had been established. At the same time Sir Louis Baron pointed out that competition was increasing, while he attributed the recent setback in profits very largely to increased costs of advertising.
