From Harvest to Haytime. By Mabel Hart. 2 vols. (Hurst

and Blackett.)—The motive of this story is a curious psychological experience, a loss of memory arising from some physical injury. If Christian could have been forgotten by his past as entirely as he forgot it himself, he might have been a happy man. The story of his life, his second life, that is, for of the first we have only a few glimpses, has a pathetic interest. We cannot help being sorry for him, when Nemesis overtakes him, though we feel that he is but getting his deserts. The real charm of Miss Hart's book lies in the descriptions of country life. Mr. and Mrs. Pollard, and the old foreman at the farm, are excellently drawn characters, and Meg is a delightful child.
