No. 1207: History corrected

Set by Jaspistos: Did the dying Nelson really say, 'Kismet, Hardy'? Did Alfred burn those cakes, or did he nobly take the blame for someone else's negligence? You are invited to provide an eye-witness account of some famous historical remark or event which surprisingly contradicts accepted tradition. Maximum 150 words. Entries to 'Competition No. 1207' by 12 March. Through the renewed kindness of Matthew Gloag & Son Ltd a bonus bottle of the Famous Grouse Scotch Whisky will go to the top winner of this and the next eleven competitions.
