The policy of raids has been prosecuted unceasingly by both

sides on the Western front during the week. It has been said that during the winter the Germans will recover the moral they were rapidly losing during the battle of the Somme, but we cannot think they will recover enough for their purpose so long as the balance of these con- tinuous raids remains always in our favour. Thursday's papers, for example, mention three raids, two German, which failed, and one British south-east of Ypres, which was successful. Earlier in the week our raids, particularly at Loos, had inflicted considerable loss without our men sustaining many casualties. On Tuesday six German aeroplanes were destroyed and three were driven down damaged. On that day we lost ono. Two of our machines, however, are missing.
