NEWS OF THE WEEK.

'WE tide has turned on the Western Front. General Foch, after stopping the great German offensive launched on Monday week on either side of Reims, began on Thursday week an offensive of his own which has transformed the situation. The first battle of the Marne in 1914 ruined the invader's plans ; the second battle of the Marne in 1918 promises to be the opening phase of the final defeat of Germany. General Foch has justified the confidence of the Allies by a masterly manoeuvre at the psycho- logical moment, and the French, British, Italian, and American troops under his direction have all fought magnificently. The enemy, defeated with heavy losses on three sides of his salient between the .Aisne and the Marne, is now fighting desperate rear- gnat-el actions to save what he can from the wreck of his grandiose scheme. We can await the issue with renewed confidence in the. Allied Armies and in their brilliant chief.
