A misleading Paris telegram caused us last week to do

an injustice to General Cadorna, his Assistant Chief of Staff, General Porro, and General Capello, who commanded the Second Italian Army at Caporetto. It seems that these officers have not been placed on the retired list, but have merely ceased to receive the extra paid. leges enjoyed by officers holding appointments at the front. The Army Order which was misinterpreted did not, therefore, imply any censure on General Cadonart and his colleagues. We are glad to rectify the error, for, as we suggested last week, General Oedema has rendered such magnificent service to his country and to the Allied cause that he should not be judged too harshly for the one reverse that he sustained after two years of victories.
