Seen to be done

What is a monopoly in Britain? An organisa- tion that takes more than 30 per cent of national sales. And what happens to a monopoly when it is investigated? It is put through the hoop without privilege of a lawyer. Nor can it make any statement to be carried in the findings of the Monopoly Commission.

The cal have been deliberating on these iniquities and soon they are likely to draw attention to the need to improve matters. Their pleas will be received by John Davies. And Mr Davies, when director general of the cat, was responsible for a report also asking for Monopoly Commission affairs to be improved so that justice could be seen to be done by the companies investigated.

It will be interesting to see whether John Davies suffers from role confusion over this. Personally I doubt it. After a shaky start he has done much better for Mr Heath than some of the professional politicians.
